If you're looking for the best such handsets - under $200, but with decent features and performance - we have a list that should help you find what you need.

Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ finally get Daydream VR support

It's been months since Samsung and Google promised both Galaxy S8 and S8+ flagships would receive Daydream VR support. A couple of US carriers (T-Mobile and Verizon) pushed updates that pledged to bring the new functionality to these smartphones, but global availability was out of the question.

Luckily, things have just changed today, as Google confirmed Daydream VR support is now rolling out to both Galaxy S8 and S8+. Since this is a server-side update, you won't exactly know when you can use the new VR functionality.

One way to make sure that you get Daydream ...

Samsung Galaxy A3 (2017) starts receiving Android 7.0 Nougat update

After months of waiting, the cheapest smartphone in the Galaxy A (2017) series is finally getting Android 7.0 Nougat update. Back in May, Samsung Galaxy A3 (2017) was spotted at GFXBench running a new version of Android, but it took the South Korean company more than two months to actually start pushing the update.

If you happen to live in Russia, then you'll be among the first to receive the Android 7.0 Nougat update for Samsung Galaxy A3 (2017). Actually, the rollout began on July 26, so many Galaxy A3 (2017) users should have already received the update.

This is the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 in Midnight Black

What we're seeing on the left is likely the very first legitimate render of the upcoming Galaxy Note 8 - a new high-end smartphone that Samsung will announce on August 23. We have high confidence in the authenticity of this image, as it's coming from Evan Blass (aka @evleaks), who's been revealing unannounced phones - with an incredible accuracy - for years now.

Reportedly, this is a Galaxy Note 8 (or Note8, as Samsung may wants to write its name) in Midnight Black. For the record, the already released Galaxy S8 comes in this color, too. This render is pretty much similar to other images ...

For the first time after their release, the BeatsX earbuds are available for purchase for less than $100. Amazon has both the Gray and Black versions of the headphones on sale for just $99.

Even though the retailer has the price hidden, adding the product in the cart will reveal its discounted price. Keep in mind that the Blue ...

Spotify now owns twice the number of paying subscribers as Apple Music has

Streaming music service Spotify announced today that it has 60 million paid subscribers to its premium offering. That is more than twice the amount of paying subscribers that Apple has for its Apple Music service. Both Spotify and Apple charge $9.99 for their top tier plans. Spotify does have a free ad-supported tier, which is something that Apple doesn't have. On the other hand, Apple Music does have a free 3-month trial for all new subscribers, which is something that its rival does not offer.

Spotify's premium service includes features such as no ads, the ability to play any song, and ...

Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ are currently on sale on Amazon for $575 and $675, respectively. If you haven't yet bought any of the two flagships and just wait until the prices drop even lower, then your wish might have just come true.

Both smartphones are now on sale on eBay for lower prices than Amazon's, even if not by much. It's important to point out that we're talking about the US unlocked version of Samsung's top-of-the-line devices.

So, probably for a limited time, Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ are available on eBay for just $550 and $640, respectively. ...

Google’s Nearby 2.0 releases, enabling offline communication, media sharing, and more

Google last talked at length about their Nearby API (application programming interface) at IO 2017, where its mission statement was detailed. Fast, encrypted, offline, peer-to-peer communication is Nearby's goal, and today Google opens up the doors for developers to integrate the latest version into their apps.

Nearby uses a combination of Wi-Fi, Bluetooth LE, and regular Bluetooth to discover and connect to devices that are, well, nearby. Although the Wi-Fi chip is being used, a connection to Wi-Fi or any form of cellular data is not necessary, ...

T-Mobile killing its Windows Phone app effective August 25

T-Mobile one of the most active Windows Phone supporters in the United States is giving up on Microsoft's mobile platform, which makes sense considering the Redmond-based company's latest moves in the smartphone space.

The Uncarrier has started to send messages to some of its customers to let them know the T-Mobile app for Windows Phone will no longer be supported beyond August 25, 2017.

What does this really mean for T-Mobile customers who own Windows Phone handsets? Well, after August 25, they will be forced to use the carrier's website to check their accounts instead of the mobile ...

iPhone 8 could be bigger than what leaks are suggesting

We've all seen the renders and blueprints, we've all heard the rumors. The iPhone 8 has been leaked to death at this point, but despite that we recently got yet another curious leak regarding the new iPhone, and it came from none other than Apple itself.

After the company accidentally pushed an early firmware for its upcoming HomePod smart speaker, swarms of developers and enthusiasts took it upon themselves to scour every line of code in the firmware for interesting info and/or clues about upcoming products.

What we got was (seemingly) a confirmation on ...

Galaxy Note 8 leaks again in case maker renders, Arctic Silver version included

Back when the first color versions leak of the Galaxy S8 came our way, we couldn't help but notice the funky names that Samsung chose for the hues - Black Sky, Orchid Grey, and Arctic Silver. That last Arctic Silver version will apparently be present as a color layer on the upcoming Galaxy Note 8, as well, if the leaked case maker renders above holds water. It will probably join the obligatory black and grey versions, as well as that Blue Coral that so many seem to be fond of. Will Samsung ever release a pinkish Note 8, or a brand new color altogether, remains ...

Google Gboard for iOS now integrates Maps, YouTube, and a drawing feature

Gboard, Google's official keyboard app, received an update earlier today, although only on iOS.

iPhone and iPad users who have Gboard installed on their devices can now access Google Maps and YouTube directly from the keyboard, just by tapping on the G button located on the upper left side. This way, it's easier than ever to share your current location, or maybe a funny YouTube video, with friends - without switching apps.

Another new feature that the updated Gboard (version 1.8.0) brings is called Ink - you can find it by tapping on the emoji button, then on the dedicated pen button. ...

iPhone 8 could end up bigger than what leaks are suggesting

It's not a Vin Diesel movie: iPhones worth more than half a million stolen from a moving truck

Dutch police have arrested five men suspected in the theft of iPhones worth more than half a million US dollars, but it's not just the sheer amount of iPhones stolen: the men have allegedly pulled off a Fast and Furious stunt to make it happen. Driving a modified van near the truck loaded with the iPhones, one of the men broke into the truck while it was moving and started throwing boxes with iPhones into the van.

The five man, all with their origins in the Eastern European country of Romania, were arrested at a holiday park in central Netherlands ...

Tidy homescreens: do you use folders to store your app shortcuts? How many?

Nowadays, there are tons of apps on the app stores and they all do something awesome. From image editors, to music software, crazy camera modifiers, chats, social media apps, games, the list goes on and on. And with so much storage on our phones, it's easy to get... really overboard with how much content we install!

Now, some phones don't have the benefit of an app drawer (yeah, looking at you, iPhone, but also some black sheep Androids), and all of those apps splurge across a multitude of homescreens. Even if you have an app drawer, you might feel better to have most of them on a homescreen ...

Microsoft closes down Word Flow for iOS, encourages users to get SwiftKey instead

Word Flow keyboard app for iOS was a product of Microsoft's Garage project. I say “was” because Microsoft decided to pull the plug on the development and remove Word Flow from the App Store.

According to a message posted on the app's page on Microsoft Garage, the development of Word Flow was an experiment that it's now complete (whatever that's supposed to mean). Moreover, the developers recommend those who used Word Flow on their iOS devices to go ahead and download SwiftKey instead.

The Word Flow experiment is now complete! We encourage you to download ...

Nokia 9 (Nokia 8?) specs found on GFXBench listing

The reborn Nokia brand's Android flagship is still a couple of weeks away, or so we believe. HMD Global has announced a special event on August the 16th and while we don't know what it's going to be about, leaks and reports heavily suggest the Nokia 9 (or Nokia 8, or both, it's still a bit fuzzy) is to be revealed.

So, not much is known about it yet, but leaked renders show a dual camera setup and a home button with an embedded fingerprint scanner, neighbored by a couple of capacitive navigational keys — pretty standard, go-to design for a solid Android phone. Price is said to be around ...

Android may finally be getting native support for Bluetooth battery indicators

If you're one of the many, many Android users who own some sort of wireless Bluetooth accessory, there's a high chance you've at some point wished for an easy way to check its battery status right from your device's screen. And as it happens, the Bluetooth standard already has support for the feature — in fact, it has had it for more than five years. And while many manufacturers have their own implementations of the feature, it's still not present in the AOSP (a.k.a. the base all Android variants derive from).

But as uncovered in Android's source ...

BlackBerry KEYone now available in physical Sprint retail stores

Sprint is the carrier to go in the United States if you are looking for exotic phones. The nation's fourth largest mobile operator also sells the newest BlackBerry KeyOne phone, one of very few in 2017 to have a full QWERTY keyboard.

But up until now, you could only buy the BlackBerry KeyOne online, and you could not find it in Sprint's physical retail stores. This changes today, as the carrier is bringing the phone to its network of brick and mortar stores, and you can just walk in and get yours.

The BlackBerry KeyOne ...

LG V30 schematic leaks: Dual rear camera remains a staple, but no sign of a secondary display

With the LG V30 slated for an August 30 announcement, it's only natural for more and more leaks and rumors to start popping out. The latest one is what's claimed to be an excerpt from the phone's manual and gives us a rather nondescript look at LG's soon-to-come handset.

It doesn't take a genius to spot the similarities between the V30 schematic and the company's G6 flagship – we've got the same slim bezels all-around the front, with the top and bottom one a bit more pronounced, a dual-camera at the rear, and last but not least, what seems to be a 9:18 FullVision display. ...

Samsung is making a high-end flip phone that looks like a Galaxy S8, but there's a catch

You might not see many (if any at all) flip phones around these days, but that does not mean that the form factor is dead.

In fact, Samsung is preparing to release a brand new high-end flip phone that features Galaxy S8-like styling. At least according to these leaked pictures that portray what looks a nearly finalized device. Keep in mind, though, that Samsung has not officially confirmed the existence of the model just yet.

The new Samsung flip phone carries model number SM-G9298, and the particular model pictured here ...

Kuo: LG is going to make OLED screens for Apple's 2018 iPhones

Industry sources have been tipping that Apple might move to OLED for good, and is looking to diversify with LG as a supply alternative to Samsung, fronting it no less than $2.7 billion as an advance payment for securing a production line dedicated entirely to iPhone displays, starting in 2019. Where there is smoke, there is fire, and now famed Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo from KGI Securities is confirming in his own turn that Apple is indeed working with LG on OLED panel supplies, and sooner.

Best new Android and iPhone apps (end July, 2017)

Alright, appaholics, it's that time of the week again. Well, the beginning of the week, actually. The day when we dip our toes in the ocean of new apps, then dive in head-first, looking for a few apps that are worth a look.

This week around, we've got a couple of awesome new tools for beginner and advanced musicians on iOS, a couple of apps for designing professionals, a cool photo editor making a debut on Android, and an iOS 11-like control center for Google's operating system. Yup, read on and you'll see why we actually decided it's worth a feature!

First screenshot from the Essential Phone shows one weird looking status bar

People have argued a lot about whether the Essential Phone's display cutout is ugly or not — so much so, that they've missed another, more important question: how will it impact the user interface? Having a tall hole at the top of your screen certainly doesn't sound like the best idea, though, the device seems to compensate for this by making the status bar extra tall.

And all that is good and well: real-life footage seems to indicate this won't be that big of a big problem, thanks in large part to the tall aspect ratio of the display. However, potential Essential Phone ...

The LG Q6 is launching around the world starting this week, fingerprint scanner not included

LG today announced that its Q6 - a smartphone initially unveiled a few weeks back - is officially launching in markets around the world starting this week. The handset will first be available in South Korea (LG's home country), followed by countries in Asia, Europe, and "the Americas." Right now, we don't know if this means the Q6 will be landing in the US anytime soon, but we'll be contacting LG about this, and update the story if necessary.

LG says that the Q6 will be sold "at an exceptional price that discerning millennials can appreciate." Not long ago, we heard that the new smartphone ...

Former Google VP says he'll never buy an Android phone for taking pictures, recommends an iPhone

Vic Gundotra, the name that's been associated with Google+ and search giant's mobile division for many years, has just decided that Android smartphones aren't as good as he thought they would be in comparison with Apple's iPhone 7.

According to Gundotra, the main reason Android smartphones can't have great cameras, as opposed to the iPhone 7, would be the fact that it's open source and must remain “neutral to all parties.”

Here is the problem: It's Android. Android is an open source (mostly) operating system that has to be neutral to all parties. This sounds ...

The Moto G5S Plus shows off its three color variants in leaked renders

Ever since the Moto Z2 Force Edition's launch event, the company's other devices we were expecting to see unveiled there, the Moto X4, G5S and G5S Plus have seemed more like mythical beasts than actual, upcoming products. And while we've heard of a possible release window for the former, the latter duo is still something of an enigma. But while we wait, the ever reliable serial leakster Evan Blass has come to the rescue with a new set of renders of the G5S Plus to sate our appetite.

While we've seen leaked renders of this particular mid-ranger before, ...

Here's how to enable a bottom navigation bar in your Chrome browser (Android tutorial)

It's no news that phones have been growing in size for a few years now, but they are now growing taller too, making one-hand usage a living hell.

Thankfully, whenever hardware obstructs ease of use, software gets in the way and provides users with ways of making things easier. Google's own Chrome, which is easily one of the most popular browsers around, has a bevy of features that aim to make your experience better, and one of these is none other than the experimental bottom-positioned navigation bar. At least on Android, that is!

Wait... ...
