Sign up for Verizon Unlimited, Fios TV, internet and phone to receive up to $500 back

As we said the other day, it is war out there in the wireless industry. No sooner does one carrier offer a new plan, then a rival tries to match or even better it. Take a look at this example. On February 27th, AT&T introduced Unlimited Plus. This allows AT&T subscribers with an unlimited talk, text and data plan to receive a $25 credit toward a subscription to AT&T's video services like DirecTV, DirecTV Now and U-Verse TV. With this plan, $115 a month gives AT&T subscribers unlimited talk, text, data, 10GB of high-speed tethering (after 10GB, speed is reduced to 128 kbps) and DirecTV. ...

Best Motorola smartphones (2017)

Motorola may no longer be the top phone maker that it was about a decade ago, but, under its new parent company (Lenovo), it's trying to develop and launch interesting, attractive handsets. We'd say that it does this with a certain degree of success, although Moto is obviously not up there with giants like Apple and Samsung when it comes to sales. And it may never will be, but that's not the point.

In 2017, Motorola has a solid portfolio of smartphones, covering pretty much all budgets and needs. If you want to know which of the current Moto phones are the best ...

Samsung Galaxy S8 press render leaks out, this is one tall phone

A couple of days ago, at MWC 2017, Samsung revealed that its next flagship smartphone would be announced on March 29 2017, during one of the company's trademark Unpacked events.

While Samsung didn't name the handset, it was - with a high degree of certainty - talking about the Galaxy S8.

Now, it appears that we can take a look at a press render depicting the Galaxy S8. It's quite possible that this is one of the images that Samsung itself will use to market the upcoming phone, as the render has been uncovered by Evan Blass (aka @evleaks). In case you need a reminder, ...

Pictures of a new BlackBerry-branded smartphone leaked out

Although Chinese company TCL is now in charge of the design, development, and distribution of BlackBerry-branded smartphones at a global level, there are specific locations where BlackBerry handed its license to launch its handsets to other companies.

Indonesia is one the markets where BlackBerry still has a consistent market share, so it makes perfect sense for the Canadian company to want to maintain that, or even expand it. The best way to do that is to let a native company handle the design and distribution of BlackBerry smartphones.

BlackBerry KEYone features fingerprint scanner built in to the QWERTY keyboard's space bar

One of the ingenious things that is part of the BlackBerry KEYone is the placement of the fingerprint scanner embedded inside the space bar on the keyboard. This is the first time that a biometric reader is found built into a phone's physical QWERTY keyboard. Part of that is due to the fact that not too many smartphones these days have a physical keyboard at its disposal. The unique fingerprint scanner was built by a company called Fingerprint Cards AB. The latter worked with the hardware team at BlackBerry to get the job done.

In a press release that BlackBerry disseminated today, the company ...

Android 7.1 Nougat beta starts hitting OnePlus 3 and 3T

OnePlus is keeping up with the timely Android Nougat updates, as the Chinese company announced a new Android 7.1 Nougat update is available for its 3 and 3T smartphones. The beta build is pushed OTA (over the air) to all those who agreed to participate in the beta program.

There's one caveat, as the new Android 7.1 Nougat beta build is based on HydrogenOS, which is meant for the Chinese versions of the OnePlus 3 and 3T.

It's a bit unusual for the Chinese variants to get a new update before the global version, especially that many users in China actually prefer ...

Google says no new Pixel laptop in the works

Google hardware chief Rick Osterloh had some bad news for Pixel fans at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona today. According to Osterloh, Google has "no plans" to build another laptop, although the wording and the questioning around the statement has us curious about what exactly that might mean, because the questioning appeared to be focused specifically on a new Chromebook Pixel and doesn't mention a new hybrid Pixel C tablet/laptop.

According to TechCrunch, Osterloh told journalists at MWC that Google doesn't currently have plans for a "Google-branded laptop", but Osterloh ...

New Nokia 3310 camera turns out better than Galaxy S7 camera: an unbiased comparison

DISCLAIMER: We've tried to keep this camera comparison as unbiased as possible. The article has been impartially examined and approved by certified experts1.

The original Nokia 3310 from 2000 didn't have a camera, but if it did, we're sure it'd have been rad. Fast-forward to 2017, though, and there's hardly a phone out there tha doesn't come with some sort of a snapper built into it. Good thing, then, that the brand spanking new 3310 from 2017 has one, and of the fancy-schmancy 2 megapixels at that! So we thought... ...

Google Play Store officially allows paid apps to go on sale for free

Throughout the history of the Google Play Store, we've seen plenty of deals on apps, but for the most part the lowest price you would ever see during a sale would be around 10 cents. That low barrier has finally been broken as Google made it official that app sales can allow a paid app to be listed for free for a limited time, and done in a way that won't break the Top Paid Apps lists.

There were some rumors that this functionality was on the way but no one was quite sure. However, Google did make it official in a very low-key manner. Google didn't make an announcement of the ...

What is RCS and why it may be the future of messaging on Android?

Over the last couple of months, there’s been quite a buzz in the Android community surrounding a certain three-letter acronym, and for good reasons. Rich Communication Services, better known simply as RCS, is a next-gen messaging standard that is set to replace the aging SMS and MMS standards, and it may be the next big thing for instant messaging on Android. We already know that Google is all-in on the idea, and that RCS is coming sooner rather than later, but there is still a lot of confusion about the whole thing. Many people are probably wondering, “who sends SMS ...

WSJ: Next iPhones could replace Lightning connector with USB-C

According to a new report from The Wall Street Journal, Apple could displace the proprietary Lightning connector of its iPhone series in favor of USB Type-C, and the 2017 models could be among the first recipients.

Cupertino has doubled down on its Lightning technology in recent years. Indeed, the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus ditched the 3.5 mm earphone jack, prompting a surge in demand for Lightning accessories and peripherals. On the other hand, Apple has adorned recent MacBooks with USB Type-C ports aplenty, and this creates quite the conflict. For example, how does one use their ...
