ECS Durathon 2 A320AM4-M3 Motherboard Review

The packaging is quirky and the bundle is minimalist, but can ECS deliver a solid Ryzen AM4 foundation at around $50?

Music streamer Spotify files for an IPO; company could be valued as high as $23 billion

With 71 million paid subscribers, and 88 million listening to an ad-supported free tier of service, Spotify is the world's largest streamer of music. Spotify might not hold that position forever, which is why the company has decided that now is the time to file for an IPO (Initial Public Offering). In second place is Apple Music, which has garnered a total of 36 million paid subscribers and is projected to surpass Spotify in the U.S. by this summer. Apple does not have a free ad supported tier of service although it does offer a free three-month trial.

One of the bad things about going public, ...

Israeli tech firm Cellebrite says it can unlock most Apple iPhone models

You might remember the name Cellebrite from the old days when you would purchase a new feature phone and have the contacts and other data moved from your old handset to the new one. Many carriers would use a Cellebrite machine to handle those duties. At the same time, these machines would often give us information about an upcoming new model before it was released.

And two years ago, the company ended up involved in the brouhaha over Apple's defiance of a court order demanding that it unlock the Apple iPhone 5c belonging to deceased "Sacramento shooter" Syed Farook. Apple refused to hand ...

Scrapped LG G7 (Neo) pictured in an Israeli Journal?

Serial tipster Even Blass has discovered pictures from an Israeli Journal that appear to show the LG G7 (Neo) being presented at some type of event. This could be the scrapped version of the phone. Originally expected to be unveiled in March, LG reportedly dumped the project last month and started from scratch. The new version of the LG G7 carries a code name of Judy, a model number of G710, and is expected to launch in June carrying a type of display called MLCD+. The screen seems to have an optional notch, measures 6-inches and allegedly has a resolution of 1440 x 3120 for a PPI north of 900. ...

Here’s What’s Driving Up Prices For High-Capacity PSUs

You may have noticed that graphics cards aren't the only PC components with price and availability issues lately. PSUs with 850W or higher capacities have become scarce, and that's at least partly because of cryptocurrency mining.

Huawei P20 Lite photo and features leak out: iPhone X-like notch, generous battery

Earlier this month, we saw renders allegedly showing the unannounced Huawei P20 Lite, a smartphone that will probably be unveiled on March 27 (alongside a regular Huawei P20, and a P20 Plus). Now, thanks to Venture Beat, we can take a look at what seems to be a real photo depicting the Huawei P20 Lite - see above.

As the aforementioned renders have shown, the most noticeable design element on the P20 Lite is its notch (à la Apple iPhone X) that sits at the top of its display. According to Venture Beat, this display is a 5.6-inch one with an 18:9 aspect ratio and 1080 ...

No fooling: BlackBerry World will host free apps only starting on April 1st

If you still use a BlackBerry that runs on the BlackBerry 10 operating system, you might want to circle April 1st on your calendar. Starting on that day, only free apps will be hosted on BlackBerry World. The company has sent out an email to developers explaining that BlackBerry World is making this transition and will disable all "purchasing mechanisms" starting on April Fool's Day. In the email, BlackBerry tells developers to go to the Vendor Portal to change their paid apps to free apps. Any paid apps still on the site by March 31st will be removed.

Can you believe that the BlackBerry ...

From Nokia 808 to Pixel 2: phone cameras got drastically better with time

Say what you will about the lack of dual-camera or optical zoom shenanigans on Google's Pixel phones, but they have consistently been making excellent pictures with the hardware at their disposal, and so much so, that the Pixel 2 currently stands at the top of the DxOMark chart.

While the camera testers' methods and ranking scheme have been a subject of criticism and scrutiny by shutterbugs, DxOMark has been probing digital cameras and lenses for many years, making a name for themselves, and, about 6 years ago, they started running cell phone cameras through the paces, ...

Sony Xperia XZ2 or XZ2 Compact: which one would you buy?

So, Sony has a new set of flagships — the pocketable Xperia XZ2 Compact and the shiny Xperia XZ2. Unlike other “mini” or “lite” phones, the Compact makes no compromise in terms of hardware — it's a heavy-hitting top-tier phone through and through, with an HDR display, stereo speakers, Snapdragon 845, 4K HDR video recording, and Sony's super slow motion on board.

Well, it does pass up on some of the features of the bigger XZ2, like a glass back and the Dynamic Vibration System. But it makes up for it with a lower price tag — we expect the XZ2 compact would cost about ...

Poll results: Sony Xperia XZ2 gets a "meh" out of 10

So, the Sony Xperia XZ2 is a different beast in regards to what we are used to seeing from Sony. It's got an arched back with a super-shiny finish, an oddly-placed camera, a fingerprint scanner, an 18:9 screen on the front and it's... a bit thick. Still, the Sony Omnibalance look is there, most evident when you look at the device from the front, and we appreciate the fresh take — something that Sony wasn't keen on doing for the past few years.

Not only does it look different, the XZ2 packs a slew of new features — some special, others not so much — and we have to say, it's an ...

Best rugged cases to keep your Galaxy S9/S9+ safe and sound

If your motto is "a working phone is better than a broken one", and you're looking to protect your investment in either the Galaxy S9 or S9+, then you're at the right place. We've decided to compile a list of the best tough Galaxy S9/S9+ cases out on the market right now, and we will be updating it regularly, as more case makers launch products for the latest crop of Galaxy phones.

It is true that overly bulky cases can ruin the looks of beautifully crafted devices, such as the new Galaxies, but then again, there's nothing worse than a bunch of scratches, ...

Galaxy S9 should land Android 9 faster

The new features that the latest Android 8.0 Oreo update brings to the table, and to the newly-announced Galaxy S9 and S9+ in particular, aren't overwhelming, but one of them is of particular note - Project Treble.

It is Google's final push to remedy slow Android updates by separating the basic, core Android framework, from the manufacturer image, thus allowing it to be updated much faster than before, as it will be uniform across the board.

There are a few Project Treble phones currently on the market, like Huawei's Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro, but those ...

Carrier chief: Get ready for a Samsung 5G phone, as 'preparations' are in play

Prompted by a question about Huawei's newest 5G cellular modem, announced at the MWC expo the other day, the CTO of SK Telecom Park Jin-hyo answered mysteriously that "Huawei excels in its technologies…While Samsung may not say much, it has also been making a lot of preparations," and added "It is not so far for Samsung either in coming up with a 5G device."

The fact that the telco's CTO didn't budge when confronted with Huawei's announcement shows how certain he is that Samsung is working on a 5G handset i its own turn. We'd wager to guess that this will be the Galaxy S10, or ...

What are the differences between the Xperia XZ2 and Xperia XZ2 Compact? Let's explore them!

Sony has just launched its brand-new flagship duo at MWC — the Xperia XZ2 and Xperia XZ2 Compact — and they sure are lookers! It's nice to see that while the industry is making a “regular” flagship and a large-sized “plus” one, Sony is going the opposite way, offering a compact phone alongside its mainstream flagship. That way, people who want to have a pocketable device that doesn't compromise in power and features still have somewhere to go.

But the Compact line has never been a direct copy of the larger phones. Usually there is some minimal corner-cutting and some slight restriction in ...

Samsung to launch Bixby 2.0 alongside the Galaxy Note 9 later this year

It was back in October 2017 when we first heard that Samsung is prepping a huge new upgrade for its AI assistant. Dubbed Bixby 2.0, it is supposed to transform the digital assistant into an AI tool that's integral to the user's life, or so Sammy hopes. The new Bixby will finally come with a software development kit, allowing 3rd party developers and product makers connect their smart stuff to Samsung's AI.

In an interview at MWC 2018, Samsung's chief of Mobile DJ Koh said that the focus with Bixby 1.0 was all about expansion. The company wanted to get the assistant out in as ...

An Android phone for children shown at MWC 2018

A week ago we told you about a survey on smartphone addiction that showed some intriguing results – 47% of parents in the US think their kid is addicted to their smartphone. Worry not, as this percentage might get lower soon – Spanish company EscudoWeb, which creates educational products, has shown its newest project at MWC 2018. It's called the phoneKid – an Android smartphone for children, which lets parents dictate when and how the youngsters use their smartphone.

The smartphone, which runs on a modified version of Android to prevent security bypass, lets parents ...

This is where Xperia XZ2 is better than Galaxy S9

Sony took the plunge, and finally changed the aging design of its Xperia flagships to something more palatable in this day and age of phones with 80%+ screen-to-body ratio. The Xperia XZ2 and Compact are outfitted with the trendy (and now de facto standard) 18:9 aspect ratio, and, while they do have plenty of top and bottom bezels to play with, it's a far cry from the Inch High monstrosities of yesteryear.

Sony's new phones have all the hallmarks of a 2018 spring flagships, too, like Snapdragon 845 chipsets, waterproof certification, HDR displays, and very capable cameras ...

Galaxy S9 vs S8 differences you might've missed, from tougher glass to new sounds

While many a Galaxy S8 user are justifying their reluctance to shell seven Benjamins on a new phone by looking for confirmation that the Galaxy S9 is practically a Galaxy 8.5, others beg to differ, and say that there are plenty of big differences to warrant an upgrade.

The variable camera aperture with Super Low Light option, the Super Slow Motion, and 4K recording at 60fps come to mind, and that's upgrading where it counts an already excellent Galaxy S8, without even mentioning the repositioned for more ergonomic access fingerprint scanner, the ...

An arcade classic reborn for the new world: Atari Night Driver

Atari's Night Driver is a true classic of arcade gaming. It was launched in 1976 and was one of the very first driving simulators. By today's standards, it doesn't look like anything much, but it's easy to understand why it was a smash hit back in the day.

Atari decided to remaster and re-release Night Driver for the new world — it is now an Android 3rd person racing game with fully fleshed-out graphics, instead of the black-and white game it used to be.

The name and the fact that you are driving a car is where the similarities quickly, end, ...

Hands-on with the 99% bezelless phone that has a fingerprint scanner under the screen

Vivo, a flourishing Chinese phone maker, may have just shown us one of the most interesting and forward-looking smartphone concepts at Mobile World Congress.

The Vivo Apex, a concept phone that may or may not ever reach the market (in China), is very remarkable for exactly 4 things. Let's take a quick look:

1. 99% bezel-less design
The Vivo Apex is almost completely bezelless. We know we've been saying this for almost every phone that came with significantly reduced bezels in the last few years, but the Vivo Apex takes things further than we've ever seen. Its top and side bezels ...

Monsters from Asia: This is the phone with the largest battery in the world

What's the phone with the biggest battery you could name? Your mind is now probably racing through all sensationalist news articles you've read in your life, but how about this: the phone with the biggest battery we've ever seen was announced at this year's MWC trade show in Barcelona.

Having the tongue-twisting name of Energizer Power Max P16K Pro, this brand new Android smartphone has a mind-boggling 16,000mAh battery and is easily the phone with the largest battery we've ever seen. How much is 16,000mAh, exactly? That's more than five times the size of the ...

Best thin and light Galaxy S9/S9+ cases and covers

If you are looking for a case to protect your shiny, new Samsung Galaxy S9 or S9+, without making the phone look like some sort of utilitarian Swiss army brick with card slots and kickstands, then you're at the right place. We have selected the best thin and light Galaxy S9/S9+ cases available right now, that provide adequate protection for the phones, without adding much bulk or interfering with the sleek design.

It is true that beautifully crafted devices, such as the new Galaxies, are best experienced without protection (ahem), but there's a good case ...

How to disable individual Android apps from receiving automatic updates (no root required!)

Having all of your apps updated to the latest version is usually recommended as developers strive to provide a more pleasing and issue-free experience to users, but sometimes, just sometimes, there's some incentive to not update a certain app.

Maybe it's new versions bring features that actually couldn't care less, maybe the app no longer works with your device any more, or maybe it breaks your whole Substratum setup. Few, but important reasons that could easily hold you off from updating your apps.

But how do you disable app updates for a specific app ...

T-Mobile joins the 5G fray, announces super-fast network in 30 cities by the end of 2018

Unlike AT&T and Verizon which said their first 5G devices will be pucks, not smartphones, T-mobile claims it will be focusing on “delivering a truly transformative 5G experience,” which is meant to work on actual smartphones.

T-Mobile has already started to deploy 5G-ready equipment and enable 5G low-band ...

Motorola RAZR coming back hints Lenovo CEO

One of the most popular handsets in the history of the cellphone, Motorola sold 50 million RAZR flip phones between 2004 and 2006. Anyone who was anyone had to have the device. While there were smartphones around, it wasn't until the next year, when Apple CEO Steve Jobs introduced something called the Apple iPhone (you might have heard of it) that the smartphone revolution began in earnest. Intelligent handsets soared in popularity, marking the end of the RAZR.

With the return of the Nokia 8110 at MWC bringing a nostalgic feeling to many, Lenovo CEO Yang Yuanqing talked today with ...

Sony Xperia XZ2 vs iPhone X: how does Sony's best compare to Apple?

The stylish new Sony Xperia XZ2 comes with a higher, premium price and this time, it will not shy away from competing against the best and most expensive phones out there. And when we speak about premium phones, no mainstream phone is more expensive than the Apple iPhone X.

We took upon the opportunity to compare the new Xperia XZ2 (see full specs here) against the iPhone X (see full specs here) on the showroom floor at Mobile World Congress 2018. While this comparison does not go in depth, it should give you a good idea of how the two compare in terms of physical size, looks ...

What's new with shooting video with the Samsung Galaxy S9 & S9+?

By now, you're probably well-informed about the greatness that comes from the cameras out of the Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+. Still photography may potentially be redefined on mobile thanks to Samsung's implementation of offering a variable aperture of either f/1.5 or f/2.4 with its new 12MP camera. While it's fine and dandy that low-light photography on mobile will no doubt receive a boost from this, there's the other aspect about the camera that hasn't been getting a while lot of love and attention – and that's its ability to shoot video!

We spent some intimate time running through ...

Asus ZenFone 5 and ZenFone 5Q hands-on: hey there, good-looking!

Mobile World Congress is in full swing in Barcelona, and announcements have been pouring over the past few days. The latest unveiling comes from Asus: the company just introduced a trio of new ZenFone 5 handsets, including the Asus ZenFone 5Z flagship. However, the first two phones we had the chance to check out were the ZenFone 5 and ZenFone 5Q – and at a glance, they don't look bad at all. (In a last-minute update, Asus informed us that the ZenFone 5Q will be known as ZenFone 5 Lite outside of the US.)

Actually, calling the ZenFone 5 and 5Q "not bad" would be an understatement. ...

New flagship killers: Asus releases the ZenFone 5 family

Asus' ZenFone handsets have been around for about 4 years now and, while they haven't picked up a great deal of steam, they offer their own sets of interesting features on midrange and flagship phones. A lot of them center around the camera, with laser focus, and wide-angle lenses or 2x optical zoom having been in the company's portfolio already in the past.

Today, Asus launches the next generation of ZenFone handsets — the ZenFone 5, ZenFone 5Q (ZenFone 5 Lite in select markets), and the flagship ZenFone 5Z. Let's take a closer look at what they have in store for us!

Sprint announces the six cities where it will start building out its 5G technology

Earlier this month, Sprint CEO Marcelo Claure said that Sprint will start offering 5G wireless service sometime during the first half of 2019. The carrier will start building out its 5G pipeline this April by rolling out Massive MIMO technology to six cities. This brings additional capacity to the network as it adds multiple antenna links between the cell tower and compatible phones. Last year at MWC 2017, Sprint and Nokia demonstrated multi-gigabit speeds over LTE by using a Massive MIMO layout consisting of 128 antennas (64 transmit/64 receive).

The three cities that will receive ...

Fatties: Sony Xperia XZ2 and XZ2 Compact are the thickest high-end phones in years

Announced yesterday at MWC 2018, Sony's Xperia XZ2 and XZ2 Compact are introducing a new(ish) design language. Compared to the previous high-end smartphones made by Sony, the Xperia XZ2 series brings 18:9 displays, thinner bezels, and rear fingerprint scanners, thus looking quite different from the handsets the company has released in recent years.

The Sony Xperia XZ2 and XZ2 Compact also bring a weird novelty (if we can call it that): at 11.1 mm and 12.1 mm, respectively, both models are really thick for 2018. As you'll notice in our size comparison here, Sony's ...

Nokia's latest video ad is a heart-warming bridge between the past and the present

When it comes to video ads, few phone manufacturers actually succeed to convey empathy and emotion. Many rely on the shock factor that has a certain barbaric charisma to it but proves lackluster of any artistic factor in the long run (looking at you, OnePlus), while few inspirational TV spots in-between remain memorable, like Samsung's great ostrich commercial from a few months back.

Now Nokia wants to join the fold of the latter by coming up with an equally-inspirational ad that's way better than the average one you would normally see. It features two ...
