Beautiful, dark wallpapers perfect for OLED smartphones

Predominantly dark wallpapers look great on OLED displays and are particularly good for when you don't want your eyes gouged out by bright colors late at night. Darker backgrounds are also less obtrusive in general, don't clash with icons and widgets on your home screen, and can nicely complement the design of any black or gray device.

And this week's wallpaper collection is all about low-key imagery – dim lights, night-time cityscapes, moody landscapes, dark forests, and more! We tried to pick images that both fit this week's theme, while not being completely devoid ...

First Note 9 benchmark reveals Infinity display, Android Oreo

While Samsung may have shattered all our dreams for a groundbreaking 7nm chipset in the Note 9 with a single press release saying "in the first quarter, earnings are expected to rise on the ramp-up of 2nd generation 10nm process products for this year’s flagship smartphones," all else is still in play for the phablet.

By all else we mean Samsung's second-gen Infinity Display like on the Galaxy S9, which sports even thinner bezels all around, higher brightness with lower reflections, and 20% thicker Gorilla Glass 5 on top of it for added protection. Why ...

As Americans balk at $700+ flagships, Samsung may refurbish the S8 as midranger

It was somewhat inevitable, and easy to predict, but now it's unfurling before our very eyes. People using their phones longer, that is. After the demise of the two-year cell phone contract, and when the full price of a phone without carrier subsidies was oh-so-painfully revealed to us, the length of time that subscribers kept their current handsets started to gradually increase.

Top-tier manufacturers like Apple and Samsung predicted and sensed the upgrade slowdown, and started raising prices to offset the slump in demand for the latest and greatest. This culminated in last ...

Fitbit's most appealing smartwatch leaks in press renders ahead of announcement

Fitbit has already confirmed plans to launch a new “Family” of smartwatches this year, and the first wearable device from the new lineup has already been leaked. The unannounced smartwatch was teased by Fitbit not long ago during its latest investors call as one with “mass appeal.”

Well, the first pictures showing the smartwatch that's supposed to be more appealing than the Fitbit Ionic have just leaked online, along with details about its specs.

Design-wise, the upcoming Fitbit smartwatch seems to be a mix between the Ionic and Pebble wearables, hence the “mass appeal” tag. Apparently, ...

Honor 7X is now eligible for an Android Oreo beta update in Europe

The inexpensive Honor 7X seems to be the next smartphone released by the Chinese handset maker to receive a beta program. If you're located in Europe, you'll now be able to download Android Oreo beta for the Honor 7X.

The first countries to get the Android Oreo beta program are France, Germany, Italy, and Spain, but it's yet unclear if Honor will be willing to make this build available in other regions like North America and Asia.

If you want to try out Android Oreo for Honor 7X, you must first join the beta program via the dedicated app. Open the application and make sure to log ...

Buh bye, Best Buy cell phone stores, margins were good while they lasted

Best Buy is gearing up to shutter all of its dedicated cell phone stores that it has dispersed in malls around the country way before the first iPhone was even introduced. The reason? Well, they now cost more to operate than the big-box Best Buy store, and the profit margins on smartphones aren't that great anymore either. For the middle man, that is, not their manufacturers, which have been raising prices to offset a demand decline, which in turn offsets the demand even more, but we digress.

The sales from the 250 or so dedicated phone shops that Best Buy has around the ...

Google enhances Search to provide more in-depth results to questions

Google has just announced its Search service has been improved to offer users better results to their questions. The improvements come in the form of so-called “multifaceted featured snippets,” a new feature that will appear when we're using Search.

According to Google, multifaceted featured snippets allows the algorithm behind Search to better understand our queries and recognize when there could be multiple interpretations of that query.

Since there are several types of nuanced queries where showing more in-depth results could be very helpful to Search users, Google is starting ...
