Mutli-device support on WhatsApp coming soon: you will no longer need your phone nearby to chat

Right now, using WhatsApp on a device that's not your phone requires your phone to be connected and nearby, so the end-to-end encryption can work. This is soon going to change as WhatsApp works on multi-device support feature.
